LAMAC — the Latin American Music & Arts Center — is ALMA Boston's community arts school at The Foundry in Cambridge, launched in January 2025 by Zaira Meneses and Nadia Galaviz. It offers classes in guitar, dance and jarana and workshops in Spanish writing, photography, crochet and Latin American song, for people of all ages and backgrounds.

When the Latin American Music Festival became a nonprofit in May 2024, it launched a center to bring university-caliber arts education to underserved communities in Boston. LAMAC opened at The Foundry in January 2025 with a curriculum built on the diversity of Latin American music and dance, and on cross-disciplinary projects that also teach communication and the skills an artist needs to manage a career.

The teachers are working artists, guest professionals and educators. Classes are designed for beginners as much as for advanced students, in English and Spanish.

Guitar (technique and repertoire), dance and jarana run as ongoing classes; the workshops rotate each season: son jarocho zapateado, creative writing and conversation in Spanish for teens, photography with analog and DSLR cameras, crochet, and a Latin American songs workshop for singers and guitarists of any level. Each listing below shows the last published season so you know what to expect.

Workshops and community fandangos are free or low-cost thanks to our funders. Guitar classes in 2025 were $100 for a package of four technique classes, $150 for a repertoire drop-in, $500 for four and $960 for eight repertoire lessons. Scholarships exist: ask before you decide not to come.

Where exactly is LAMAC?

At The Foundry, 101 Rogers St, Cambridge, MA 02142 — a few minutes' walk from the Kendall/MIT and Lechmere stations.

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes. Part of every donation to ALMA funds seats for families who cannot pay. Ask when you register.

Can adults join?

Yes — most classes have adult groups, and the zapateado workshop has a 20+ program.

ALMA's programs are free or low-cost because people like you fund scholarships, instruments and rehearsal space.
